Different Pieces from the Last Couple Years

This year in my art classes I tried working with mediums that I had never worked with before. My first attempt with oil pastel is the picture of the two lions above. Overall I really like it. Although, as with most of my work, it looks better farther away than close up.

This was one of the many 'Friday Drawings' that I was assigned this year in art. I started with a reference of just the skull and branch thing and then I just went off and scribbled the rest of it. Im not sure if I really like it. I am not very good when it comes to working strictly from my imagination. I really like to work with references. It makes me feel safer with my work.

Last year we were assigned to do a 'Monster in the Closet' piece. I had a lot of fun with this one. It reminds me about when I was little and I was constantly worried about evil beings coming during the night to attack me. Although I was more worried that they would come from under the bed not through the closet.

Every once in a while during young women activities (activities held during the week for teenage girls in my church) we would have one of our congregation come and teach a little about art. We have always done water color and these are two of the best ones that came about. Looking back I wish I had put a reflection of the mountains in the water but oh well. It doesn't have to be perfect.

(Sorry about the glare) These two are definately my favorites so far. I did them both in charcoal. My two favorite animals are wolves (or canines) and horses. The wolves were my first real project in charcoal and I liked it so much that I did my next project (the elephants) in charcoal as well. I like charcoal because it is fast and if I make a mistake it is easy to fix because it doesn't stick to the board as well as a graphite pencil or some other medium.

I have always loved horses. This was one of the first pictures that I did where I had more than one reference picture and had to make my own composition.

Rose

A rose that I did with stipling last year. Its one of my favorites. I keep it on my cork board in my room. I really like to work in pen. I seem to go faster and not worry about little things that might bother me if Im working in pencil and in the end I've always been happy with the outcome.

Hey everybody,
So I decided to start this blog for an English project. My class was assigned to pick a career we were interested in and research the different kinds of genre of writing within that career. We have to pick one genre and try our hand at it.
I decided to research artists and along with that, for the genre, I chose to create a blog about my art.
So here I go...
